Incoloy A286 Vs Incoloy 20

A286, also known as Nickel Alloys A286 or Incoloy A286, is actually a high- alloy based on nickel, chromium, iron and other elements, rather than a traditional stainless steel. Although it is sometimes mistakenly called austenitic stainless steel alloy, A86 has significant differences in composition, performance and application fields from stainless steel.

Heat Treatment Process The heat treatment process of A286 alloy mainly includes two steps: solid solution treatment and precipitation treatment: Solid Solution Treatment: The alloy is heated to 980°C-1080°C, held for a of time, and then rapidly cooled (usually by water quenching or oil quenching) to form a uniform solid solution.

This process helps to improve the’s plasticity and forgeability and improve its creep resistance. Precipitation Treatment: The alloy that has undergone solid solution treatment is heated again to 720-760°C, held for a certain period of time, and then cooled.

Through the formation of precipitated hardening phases (such as γ’ phase TiN, TiC, etc.), the strength and hardness of the material are further enhanced. The choice of precipitation treatment time depends on the specific application needs to obtain best mechanical properties.

Precautions A286 alloy shows high strength during cold working, which easily lead to work hardening, so it is necessary to control the deformation amount to avoid cracking or excessive deformation. The alloy can be machined by turning, milling drilling, and other mechanical processing methods, but it is necessary to use hard tool materials such as tungsten carbide or ceramic cutting tools and control the cutting speed to overheating.
